Eau Claire Anglers Trout School
One-On-One Seminar
My name is Stephen Wisner. I’ve been flyfishing for trout since the early 1970s. As a young boy, I began my fishing journey in Wisconsin, before moving to Idaho to guide on the Henry’s Fork and Montana’s Madison River. Over the years, I have spent tens of thousands of hours on the water fly fishing for trout, smallmouth, and muskies in the United States and stalking saltwater fish on the flats of Mexico and Belize. Through my business, Eau Claire Anglers, I have helped over a thousand anglers catch fish and improve their skills. All of these hours of fly fishing and guiding experience allow me to feel confident in saying that I can help you become a better trout angler. I’m very excited to announce the launch of the Eau Claire Anglers Trout School One-On-One Seminar.
This is not a guide trip. Instead it is an eight-hour day of one-on-one, full-immersion into the world of trout fishing with a fly rod. By the end of the day, you should feel ready to head out on your own and feel confident on a trout stream. We’ll take a very deep dive into the skills that will make you a better trout angler. This seminar is perfect for both beginning and intermediate anglers and offers a way to improve your skills in a positive and fun learning environment.
What to Expect
Casting Instruction:
There is nothing more important in fly fishing than accurate casting. Trout fishing is a game of inches and the ability to put your fly exactly where it needs to be is the biggest factor in being successful on the trout stream. We will spend several hours working on your casting until you feel confident in your ability to cast accurately and efficiently.
Casting in Moving Water:
It’s one thing to cast on the lawn, and another thing entirely to cast in moving water. We’ll work on line management and spend a considerable amount of time working on getting drag free drifts while fishing from different angles to the current. You’ll learn how to mend your line using a variety of techniques.
Reading the River:
Knowing where to put your fly is essential to being successful on the water. You’ll learn to break down a section of river into its parts and understand why fish are located where they are. These skills will translate from small midwestern water to big rivers out west.
Fishing Techniques:
We’ll break down all the possible fishing scenarios into three easy to understand categories: dry flies, nymphs, and streamers. While there are infinite variations to be found in each of these categories, understanding the basic premise of each technique will set you up to confidently present your fly whatever the situation calls for.
Logistics and Cost:
Trout School is available any open day from mid-April to the end of August. We will meet in the town of El Paso, Wisconsin at 8AM. El Paso is in western Wisconsin, about an hour’s drive from Minneapolis/St.Paul.
The cost of Trout School is $400. This includes a full day of one-on-one instruction, use of a fly rod if needed, all instructional flies and materials, and lunch.
You can enroll in Trout School by contacting me, Stephen Wisner, at eauclaireanglers.com. I ask for a $100 deposit at the time of booking.
